Each CAOS Chapter is powered by a team of students who work hard to make optometry school memorable. Our chapter presidents help guide that work and serve as the main point of contact for their communities. This page gives a quick look at who they are and how to reach them for information or support.

Hi! My name is Elisa Haley, and I’m a third-year optometry student at the University of Waterloo School of Optometry and Vision Science and this year’s UW CAOS Chapter President. I grew up in a small town just outside of Waterloo and completed my Biomedical Sciences degree at the University of Guelph.

I’m especially passionate about neuro-optometric rehabilitation, improving access to eye care in underserved communities, and sharing the importance of eye exams with the public.

I’m so excited to connect with more of the optometry community this year and advocate for our profession. Outside of CAOS, I enjoy going on hikes, writing poetry and spending time with friends and family. My inbox is always open if you have any questions or want to chat!

I am the current president of the SCO CAOS Chapter! I am from Surrey, BC and went to school at the University of British Columbia. I have truly enjoyed my time in Memphis and I am learning so much about every aspect of optometry. I am particularly interested in Contact Lenses! I'm looking forward to connect with more Canadian students and build our community further together.

Hi! I’m Burak Hurmuzlu, a third-year optometry student at the Michigan College of Optometry and originally from Windsor, Ontario. I completed my undergraduate degree in Neuroscience at the University of Windsor, and my experiences shadowing local optometrists sparked my interest in pursuing optometry.

As President of the CAOS Chapter at MCO, I’m excited to help create a welcoming community for Canadian students at MCO and provide opportunities for us to connect and support one another. I’m looking forward to organizing events throughout the year, strengthening connections between Canadian students, and creating a club that everyone can feel a part of. Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with friends and family, travelling, and staying active!
