UW Mentorship: Dr. Ronald Gall

Written by: Victoria Cao, Sabhat Khan, Ariana Mitchell, Natasha Reyes (1st years)

We had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Ronald Gall through this mentorship visit! Dr. Gall gave us a detailed tour around his modern clinic in Oakville and introduced us to his friendly staff. While on the tour, Dr. Gall gave various demonstrations of innovative technology in his office, including the use of microprisms in spectacles. We toured around his vision care and optical centre where we got to learn more about the business aspect of optometry.

After touring the clinic, we had a conversation about our passion for optometry and professional goals for the future. From his experience and expertise in vision therapy, Dr. Gall informed us about the advantages of pursuing a master’s degree or specialization in vision science upon finishing optometry school. As first-year optometry students preparing to interact with patients, Dr. Gall gave us valuable advice about the importance of informed consent when communicating with patients for both testing and treatment options.

Finally, Dr. Gall treated us to a delicious dinner at the end of our mentorship visit where we were also joined by a fourth-year intern who was doing a clerkship rotation in Dr. Gall’s clinic. We had the opportunity to share more about our current experiences in optometry school and learn about the next steps after graduating. Overall, we gained valuable insight into optometry through this mentorship visit, and we are so excited to apply this knowledge in our future professions!
