This past Tuesday, I had the privilege of shadowing Dr. Mark Eltis as part of a mentorship opportunity facilitated by the Canadian Association of Optometry Students (CAOS/ACÉO), and I couldn’t have asked for a more enriching experience!
What particularly resonated with me was the profound connection Dr. Eltis fosters with his patients. His dedication to delivering thorough, compassionate care is evident in the strong relationships he has built—patients truly value their time with him. I was also deeply impressed by his ability to seamlessly integrate his research in glaucoma and dry eye with his clinical practice, ensuring that his patients receive not only the most advanced care, but also leave the exam room feeling valued and heard.
This shadowing experience was a powerful reminder of the impact we can have as optometrists and that exceptional patient care goes beyond clinical expertise—it's about the trust and relationships we build with patients. A heartfelt thank you to CAOS for organizing such a meaningful opportunity and to Dr. Eltis for generously sharing his expertise!
