The Canadian Association of Optometry Students (CAOS) is happy to present the October 2020 Student Doctor of the Month to Randi-Jo Francis!
Randi-Jo Francis is a 4th year optometry student at the Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago. She’s the current President of ICO’s Gold Key International Honours Society, and the immediate past Trustee of ICO’s American Optometric Student Association. In addition, she’s an active member of 13 other organizations and clubs on campus, 4 of which she’s held leadership positions.
Randi takes a strong interest in advancing the welfare of her fellow ICO students. As such, she has represented their interest at conferences such as the American Optometric Association’s Optometry’s Meeting. Her commitment to the optometric profession has also driven her to serving others as she’s volunteered both locally and internationally for those in need. Her passion for service has led her to volunteering at her local hospital in Canada, food banks in Chicago, and vision screenings in Jamaica where she was born.
Randi graduated from the University of Waterloo with an Honours Bachelor of Science in 2015. Her passion for sports led her on this career path after developing a retinal hole from a sports injury during her final year of her undergraduate studies. Her goal is to return to Ontario, Canada to practice full scope optometry. She hopes to eventually own her own practice, while continuing her community involvement and serving on optometry leadership bodies. In her free time, she enjoys staying active, trying new things, and exploring new places!
