The Canadian Association of Optometry Students (CAOS) is happy to announce that the June 2021 Student Doctor of the Month goes to Daniel Kowalsky Moskaliuk, from the Nova Southeastern University College of Optometry!
Daniel Kowalsky Moskaliuk is a 3rd year Optometry student at Nova Southeastern College of Optometry in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He received an Honors Bachelor Degree of Kinesiology with a minor in Biochemistry from McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario in 2017. He is excited to graduate from NSU in 2023 and is looking forward to becoming a new addition to the Optometric community.
Before attending Optometry school, he worked in Dry Macular Degeneration drug research at St. Michael’s Hospital from 2017 to 2018 under the tutelage of Dr. Shelley Boyd, which inspired him to pursue a career in health care of the eye. He spent time on a mission trip to Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic in 2015 helping an underserved community which allowed him to gain an appreciation for helping those who are less fortunate.
After entering Optometry school, he became involved in many different clubs to understand the many avenues of optometry. He is currently the American Optometric Student Association’s trustee for NSU and the President-Elect of the Ocular Disease Club. As a leader in his school community, he started a lecture series about advocacy for the Optometric profession in association with the Florida Optometric Student Association. He wants to continue to help enrich the opportunities of his fellow students and transfer that to providing excellent care to his patients.
