July 2021: Melissa Howse

The Canadian Association of Optometry Students (CAOS) is happy to announce that the July 2021 Student Doctor of the Month goes to Melissa Howse, from the Western University of Health Sciences College of Optometry!


Melissa Howse is a 4th Year Optometry student at the Western University of Health Sciences College of Optometry in Pomona, California. She got her Bachelor of Science in Physiology and Pharmacology from University of Saskatchewan. During her undergraduate years she volunteered for the Make A Wish Saskatchewan, Sherbrooke Community Center, and went to India to volunteer with Unite for Sight.

During her time at WesternU she was the president of Lions Club for a year and volunteered with the club for the subsequent years. She is currently on rotation at Dr. Moussa Optometry in Windsor Ontario. Her other rotation sites include: Advanced Vision Centre/Vision Therapy Institute in Schaumburg Illinois, MCR Health Services in Bradenton Florida and a VA in Ocala Florida. Currently she is not sure where she wants her future practice to be, however she aims to do a residency in pediatrics and vision therapy. She is always happy to provide guidance to help her fellow Canadian students and is always friendly and provides excellent care to her patients.
