Lydia Lau is a 3rd year Optometry student at the University of Waterloo, School of Optometry and Vision Science. Raised in Richmond Hill, Ontario, she completed her Bachelor of Science at the University of Waterloo with minors in Biology and Psychology. Lydia’s passion for optometry originated from her fascination with the physiology of the human eye. Through Lydia’s experiences working for and shadowing her local optometrists, she found that optometry was constantly evolving with new knowledge and skills to be learned every day. In addition, she gained a greater understanding and appreciation for patient care, including the importance of building trusting relationships with patients.
Lydia is currently President of the UW Contact Lens Interest Club. In her role, she organizes events for the student body, keeping them informed and engaged on the latest contact lens news and technologies. Outside of optometry, Lydia is an avid baker. She loves sharing her baked goods with friends and family, whom she also uses as guinea pigs for newly learned recipes.
As she continues her education and training at the University of Waterloo, Lydia remains committed to honing her clinical skills and expanding her knowledge of emerging technologies and advancements in optometric care. She looks forward to embarking on her upcoming external clerkships with the objective of gaining more hands-on experience in patient diagnosis and management.
