Navigating the journey to becoming an independent optometrist involves both exhilarating opportunities and formidable challenges. With this in mind, OSI Group recently organized an enlightening virtual event for the Private Practice Club students from the University of Waterloo School of Optometry and Vision Science on January 8, 2024.
At the core of the webinar were discussions spearheaded by a panel of industry pioneers, including Dr. Krista Wheildon from Wheildon MacKenzie Optometry, Dr. Olga Savitska of Bayview Vision, and Dr. Munsa Rana from EYE-OLOGY Optometry Eyewear. Each having carved their own unique paths in the field, the panel shared their experiences and insights on owning and managing independent practices. OSI Regional Practice Advisor, Jas Ryat, led the discussions, which covered the unique dynamics of practicing in urban versus rural settings and the initial steps required to establish an optometry business.
The panelists provided a detailed understanding of the financial considerations involved in setting up a practice and strategies for navigating the entrepreneurial journey within the Vision Entrepreneur program. OSI's session of knowledge sharing served as a crucial stepping stone for students, offering an interactive platform for attendees to learn and be inspired on their own terms. For students ready to enter the world of independent optometry, the Vision Entrepreneur program provides essential support and guidance. It serves as a resource for those eager to pursue a path of professional independence and success.
